Description

What an evocative name for a nebula; you can almost smell the stinking fish! This is one of several dark nebulae/molecular clouds that I imaged during a recent spate of dark skies around the new moon, and it’s one of my favorites. My skies are around Bortle 5, so these dark nebulae are a challenge. I captured mostly luminance data to help reveal as much as possible. The two background galaxies that appear embedded in the nebula are PGC69472 at the eastern end (top right) and PGC166755 at the western end (bottom/left). The “bright” (magnitude 7.3) star is HD214710.
